Exercise's contribution to weight loss is equal to the number of calories it burns, nothing more, nothing less. You can just eat that much less food to get the same effect.

People who can keep up exercise programs are simply more disciplined than people who cannot. This discipline transfers to their eating habits. If they lose more weight, it's because of their eating habits, not the exercise. Correlation doesn't mean causation.

Nobody's saying you should be a sloth. Do a certain amount of walking and the like. Go hiking or participate in a team sport if you want more. But artificial make-work activity like going to a gym is stupid and a waste of your precious hours on earth.

I take the liberty to add a comment from a message I received as I think his blog is a good read.

Hi Maria,

I've been studying nutritional issues for more than 30 years. Your comment in your "Exercise or Diet?" blog post are very much on target.

If you haven't already done so, I suggest you read "Biochemical Individuality" by Roger J Williams to further your understanding of the genetic variability problem."

[...] mariasol put an intriguing blog post on Exercise or Diet? Here’s a quick excerpt… insists that exercise is not helpful for weight loss. “No Exercise” seems to be a good selling point, or at least she thinks so.
